Entry points into ACCA certification courses

Choosing your career path is the most impactful decision of your life. Before deciding whether to pursue this certification, learn about the various paths to becoming a qualified ACCA. There are several stages for securing an entry into the coveted ACCA certification courses

Entry after grade 12

Many students opt for ACCA after finishing high school, that is, grade 12. This means they will have to qualify for all 13 papers the ACCA certification courses offer.

Unlike the other stages, entry after grade 12 offers no exemption. If you take up ACCA directly after grade 12, you may need around 2.5 to 3 years to complete your training. This is almost equivalent to that of a regular bachelor’s degree.

To sign up for this certification, you will need a minimum of 65% in Mathematics or Accounts and English and a total of 50% in the rest of the subjects.

Entry after graduation

If you are a graduate, you may be exempt from appearing on some ACCA exams. Up to 4 papers will be exempt if you are a bachelor’s degree holder.

If you finish your bachelor’s in commerce, you will receive an exemption of 4 papers. On the other hand, a bachelor’s degree in business administration will help you enjoy the benefit of an exemption of 3 papers. You can complete the ACCA certification within 2 to 2.5 years with a bachelor’s degree.

Entry after Indian Accountancy

If you are a qualified CA, you can claim several exemptions. Check out the exemptions each stage offers:

  • Entry after CA foundation level

If you have a bachelor’s degree and are qualified for the CA foundation level, you get an exemption of 4 or 3 papers. However, if you do not have a bachelor’s degree and have just qualified for the CA foundation level, you will not be entitled to exemptions.

  • Entry after CA inter-level

If you have cleared the CA inter level, you will be eligible for exemptions of 5 papers in the ACCA certification course, expediting your journey to becoming a certified ACCA.

Additionally, if you have a B.Com degree, you become eligible for an exemption of up to 6 papers. With almost six exemptions, you can complete the certification within 1.5 years with the proper guidance and focus.

  • Entry after CA final

This stage offers the maximum number of exemptions to students. You will be entitled to 9 exemptions if you have successfully cleared the CA final examination. This further reduces the time needed to become a qualified ACCA. This will leave you with only four papers, which should be easy to clear, given your prior experience and knowledge.

Conclusion

If you are planning a career in accountancy, consider ACCA an option since it allows you to work in diverse positions such as Tax Advisor, Forensic Accountant, and Management Accountant. With this, you will not be restricted to the geographical limits of any country and will be able to explore more global challenges as a professional. This brief introduction to the exemptions from the ACCA certification courses should help you choose your ideal entry point and make your place as a seasoned professional.
